pandorargyneis:

So when Morgana has her screen time in the opening, she appears with a whole bunch of words.

Cat mode.

Entering Mascot Mode???

Does that say “LOL”?  Sounds like text-speak, and we already know cellphones are probably gonna be used a lot in this game from the P5 trailer before this one.

A jumble of words appears.  Apparently it says Superbia, Luxuria, Invidia??

Does that say “Avarita” / “Cavum”?

"Ira?" "Invidia" "Superbia" ?

Ah, so now we have an official list of words that have appeared so far!

"Irritum", "Superbia", "Invidia", "Avaritia", "Gula", "Ira", "Luxuria", "Acedia", and "Cavum".  Sounds like something out of the 7 sins.

So apparently, according to Wikipedia (which we all know is a source of heavily reliable information), which confirms that these words are connected to the 7 sins, and it might be a theme in Persona 5:

-  “Acedia” means “spiritual or mental sloth, apathy; a lack of care or interest;, indifference, boredom” which is a lot to unpack.  So first you have implications of laziness / inaction, so the characters may have failing grades, then you have a reference to the Apathy syndrome, or also a reference to them becoming Phantom Thieves after trying to catch the next thrill in the city and living a hedonistic teenage life.

-  “Luxuria” means “luxury, extravagance”, which explains the casinos and high profile burglaries.

-  “Avaritia” means “greedy, avaricious, covetous”, so it could be a reference to the burglaries and the casinos that appeared in the beginning.

-  “Gula” means “gluttony, greediness”, so same as above.

-  “Ira” means “ire, anger, wrath”.  Could refer to any character, including the protagonists and the antagonists.

-  “Invidia” means “Looking upon (with the evil eye/envy)”)” (a reference to jealousy) and is the name of the Roman Goddess of “Divine Retribution and Vengeance”.  So maybe they’re talking about the vigilante justice the Phantom Thieves bring?

-  “Superbia”  means “pride, haughtiness, pomposity” so it’s describing how the characters have pride / arrogance to break the rules and go against authority???  (There were MIB that showed up in the trailer while Kaitou P5Protag commits the burglary.)

-  “Irritum” comes from “Irritus”, which means “invalid / useless, irrelevant”.  So maybe it’s talking about the night time hedonism involved in this game? Or it’s talking about the characters being useless to society (since they’re fringe people and all trying to break free)?

-  “Cavum” means “a hole, cavity, depression, pit, opening”. So maybe it refers to how the characters are sunk into the system of becoming outsiders, getting into gangs, dropping out of school, etc.  So once they become fringe people, they’re essentially stuck into the poor lifestyle.

So basically, Persona 5 would deal with the 7 sins (and individuality, something that seems to be taboo (or at least seen as a bad value) in Japanese society), and Morgana might tempt them into committing these acts.
